Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

In a training conference today so it should be a pleasant work day.

Those training sessions are never as bad as we think their gonna be! Kinda like those company picnics that you have to attend...of course in your line of work there is never a dull moment!

So far the daddies of your chicks are laid back, not aggressive, but also a little flighty. I think if I didn't have so many chickens, and could spend more time with the individual birds, they would be as good as my cuckoo Marans. The blue in the OE pen will actually stand and let me pet him, and he was the alpha before I split the flocks.
I agree with the talkative hens, too. My blue and splash hens are the most vocal I have ever had

Well,... who do we have here?! Find your chair boy! Lol. Are you under there yet? You remind me of this really nice guy I used to know..but he's gone now.
Ok Oz here is some different information for you concerning their intelligence and calmness. All I can go on is personal experience dealing with EE males. With all my birds inside for the first 2 months I spent a lot of one on one time. At a few days old the males hung back, were aloof, the females more friendly right in my hands. By 4 weeks of age my black & white cockerel would fly up and out of his cage & land on my arm on command. A four foot flight that's pretty impressive up & out of hi she to my arm. This bird was very smart. Now this is just with a few birds but I will tell you one thing rhat I did. In my training sessions I always treated them as if I were training a very impressive intelligent bird. I never treated them like they were just chickens. I expected them to train..and they did. I never cushioned them from strange noises, of course their still birds but not jumpy at all. They really are smarter than people give them credit for. As in all walks of life you have the very intelligent down to the dummies! But again from day one I treated them differently.
Now by all means please don't take this wrong I am not saying anyone's chickens are dumb! Lol. And I also have a lot of time to work with them! I'm just very impressed with my birds!

And I am interested to see how these Ameraucana chicks respond. I also learned that even if you don't think your getting somewhere you are!! My Lil' Red is very tame and it just takes lots of consistency & patience!
Have you ever heard the expression that when it comes to training of working with horses ~if you only have 15 minutes pretend like you have an hour~same with our beloved birds!

Also I gained their trust from day #1

How?! Lol, I was the one that fed them & often straight out of my hand! So they were used to eating out of my hand! They also knew that ritz crackers and a grape here and there were goodies that paid off from those joyful trips to the kitchen! It also makes it easy to catch them, pick them up, etc. cause their just so tame by then.
