Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

My guess from those pictures is it is a white. All of my splash chicks show at least a hint of blue when they start feathering, if not actual splash markings. I think that white would make a beautiful bird. I guess they would breed white?

Yes, if bred back to recessive white. As long as both parents are carrying at least one copy of the recessive white gene, then the possibility exists for white chicks to show up in the brooder. :) If the parents are carrying both copies of the recessive white, then they will be white and their chicks will all be white.

They are pretty but I hear you can't mix them!!!! So I would need another pen and what would be the chance I would get a pair!!!

I do have a splash EE with great beards and muffs she has gotten a few more dark black splashes over time of course she isn't purebred.

Geesh - leave for a few hours to deliver some chicks and come back to a love fest.  What's that funny smelling smoke?

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that when trying to catch up... :gig

I tried to stop it :gig

Now that someone with experience is here, what do you think about the "white" chick marchick posted pics of? I've never had one like that
:hit

White cropped up out of some of Harry Shaffer's Lavs... DMRippy bought her original flock from him... when the daughters were bred back to the roo, some whites showed up... he said he had never seen it before either... she no longer has those, but kept the whites and is working on a white line now from them...

I recently purchased that rooster, so will see if I end up with any doen the line or not...

I had a splash hatch out looking white until the juvie to adult feather molt... she only had a little color, but was still splash... that could be splash or white, splash runs a range of color just like blue can... ;)

Ok, ignore for a minute any markings or lack thereof. :) How does the ground color of the two chicks compare to the others in that hatch? From what I've seen, splash ground color can be anywhere from white to very light blue (gray)

The one is more of a brighter cleaner yellow! The second in question it looks more like the other ones on base color just no splashes yet!

Did the white crop up in large fowl or bantams?

I wish my black rooster would pick up his game. I'm extremely happy with the blues the splash is throwing, Oz's chicks are feathering in really dark, but the black has the better type. I want to grow some blues out side by side to see how they match up
