Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Okay, ladies...... I need help solving a mystery. I have a hen that insists on laying her eggs in a giant oak tree hollow. I don't blame her it is very nice. I put hay in the hollow and a few golf balls and she has been laying there for a couple of months. The other day I looked at the golf balls and thought I would take them out. Well..... one day the golf balls were gone, so I was puzzled and thought I must have taken them out. I replaced them. These little things take up my whole day but I promptly moved on to the next retired ladies chore and didn't give it any more thought. Well.... those golf balls disappeared. I forgot to mention there was an egg in the hollow 6 days out of 7. Now the golf balls are disappearing and no eggs. Yesterday I put 2 more golf balls in the hollow. I thought I must be crazy but this time, I am sure I put them in there, this morning, no egg and no golf balls.
What kind of animal steals golf balls and eggs?

Can people come on your property? Maybe someone is taking them!

No No No I didn't say I would be caught dead wearing pjs in public. My mother would roll over in her grave! We were brought up in an era when ladies didn't go out without their hat and gloves - and the purse and the shoes matched! Of course, my mother is probably already rolling over with what she sees me wearing these days, since I'm a retiree.

I just meant I wouldn't mind someone else wearing their pjs - as long as I don't see a plumber's crack or upper body falling out...

I am with you on that one! I wouldn't wear pjs in public.

Aigner shoes and purses.  Stockings!

Signer shoes? It's also a German name it's got several definitions I saw! Lol.

First thing I did when I retired (Oct 1, 2003) is throw all my panty hose in the garbage.  LOL

Now you know you should never throw away every pair! We ALWAYS need them and they seem to stay stashed in drawers just great!! My mother had them in little sacks!

Then I had to buy more for certain occasions - my wedding was the following weekend.

Exactly silly girl! Lol.

Okay girls, too much estrogen :)

Do you want to join our pajama party?! There will be plenty of chicks & chocolate! So much fun!! Lol

A thief on the night...that would be scary.!

Love Aigner!  Just can't afford it any more.  lol

Those were the Glory Days!! I miss them!

Hmm.... I bet you would!! Lol! WHAT IF the post office would have said no pjs..no service!?!!
That's all it would have took!

Things that steal eggs and golfballs are:

Snakes, raccoons, pack rats for starters.
I went out to collect eggs. My poor little blue Marans hen is lost. She wants to go lay her egg in the tree hollow. I have blocked the hollow. While I was out there I watched about 20 crows chasing two hawks all over the property. They were very high in the sky. If it is crows they can have all the golf balls they want.

I looked for tracks but didn't see any. I don't have food in any of my coops (rats). I have watched the chickens chase birds and cats out of the yard. I know they don't stand a chance against possum or coon but those are night time predators.

My breeder sent me a pic last night of my chicks! They looked great from what I could tell! They are so precious! Now if the post office doesn't kill them! I actually tried to post the chicks in their box for you guys but I'm doing something wrong.

Hoping she just found a new place to lay and she'll show up shortly.
