Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Someday, someday.

Keep us posted. I'm thinking those will be my first attempt at incubating in the spring.

Sweet! I have to wait until July 4th for lockdown on my lav eggs. 13 of 15 look promising- really good for shipped eggs that have to travel down a washboard gravel rd!

Happy hatching!

I keep hearing about splashes and crosses. I have silver ameraucanas, black ameraucanas and wheaton ameraucanas. Can I get any interesting mixes with these birds (I know they would not be an accepted standard but these would be for my own enjoyment). My wheatons are both pullets so I can't breed any pure wheatons but thought maybe I could cross them. Will a wheaton and a silver make a splash?
Forgive my ignorance but I am new to ameraucanas. In fact these are the first purebreds I've ever had. I've always gotten my birds from hatcheries or local farms.

No- the only way you can get splash is with blue to blue or splash to splash or blue to splash. I think with the colors you have you'll end up with some wild-type partridge colors, and maybe some black-coppery and birchen looking ones. That's what I've gotten with some of the banty EEs I've made using similar colors.

K. Thanks! I guess next spring I'll have to get a few blues.

Here's some updated pics of my freeloading girls. Still waitin' for those blue eggs. They are almost 23 weeks old.

Here's the sneaky side of them, trying to see if I'll notice them munching on my apple tree leaves.

And the innocent side of them - "We're not doing anything, really!"

And this girl I think will be the first to lay due to her red comb.

I wasn't able to get a shot of the 4th one, but she's in the background of the first shot.

New2chooks, PRETTY girls, where/who are they from?

This is my first/oldest Ameraucana. Her beard finally started growing in. Can anyone tell me if they think she will have a nice full beard based on it's progression?

Thanks!
Beth
