I have an easter egger hen that has the same rust color on her shoulders. I thought for sure rooster but she layed her first egg yesterday.

I have a hen with the same color comb. I think that's why they are so hard to sex.
I know we spoke about this already but I do have a hen just like hers with the ruse patches that just started laying eggs... idk??

Your girl has more of a 'salmon' brown. It's not the same shade as the deep, rusty red that cockerels have. And mature hens do have red combs. Cockerels get their bright red combs much earlier on than pullets.

Aww yes I did. These are her pics now. I swear she looks like she has saddle/hackle feathers too but she has started laying amd our rooster keeps trying to mate her..

That bird is golden brown. There is no 'rooster' red on her at all.

Oh, I see them, but they aren't the same shade of red that males get. That's what I'm saying. It's not 'rooster' red.

I love Ameracaunas! they are my favourite breed I have a buff ameracauna and she's so kind and gentle I suggest everyone to get one and hug it everyday!
