Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The first one doesn't have much of a beard but perhaps it may fill out.

2nd one looks like a candidate for Freezer camp.

Yeah that is what I was thinking on the second one myself. I don't mind a challenging personality, but not sure what is up with the VERY slow maturing. At 10 weeks he should have a tail...

I didn't hatch them to get show birds but since I'm feeding all these roo's thought I'd have a little fun. The EE's that hatched out of the bunch are actually way more filled out and way bigger, to bad it's not the other way around.

Thanks - I have read and reread the rules and it just says any bird hatched before January should be entered as hen/rooster and any bird hatched after January as pullet/cockeral. I called about leg bands too and they told me just whatever I use to identify my own chickens - umm I just know my individual chickens, don't generally band them at this point since I have so few.

They still are to young to show they are really in between chicks and cockerels and pullets they are still teenagers! not ready for show.

I'm "in & out" on this thread and didn't know that someone wanted to see more photos of splashes. I also have 3 (2 roos & a hen)...all about 1yr in these photos.

You would think with all of the Blue Wheaten hatching eggs I've hatched, I would get at least one Splash Wheaten, either pullet or roo.

NADA!

Last hatch. 11 Wheaten cockerels. 3 Blue Wheaten cockerals (1 decent for breeding), 7 Wheaten Pullets and 6 Blue Wheaten pullets...
Had a cat attack that got four when they were young and two wheaten pullets died of the heat a couple of weeks ago, so of the survivors,
Half male, half female. What are the odds of that when over half of the eggs were BW X BW???? and ZERO splash?

I'll have to post picks, I'm really happy with some of my BW pullets, they are really gorgeous. Can't wait for them to get big enough to put Geoffry over them,
then I'll pick the largest, bluest eggs to incubate.... and next time get some eggs from Tailfeathers... that will give me some real genetic diversity to chose from.

i want to ask a ??? hope i dont start a fight lol... my splash roo has the yellow bleeding threw on his neck like so

i know this is not a good thing but he is the only breeding age roo i have... so my ??? is out of all my looking a pics on the internet i have never seen a splash Ameraucana that was the correct color... i have seen about 10 or 15 good pics of different splash roo's and all of them have had it!!!
i know that alot of breeders just breed black to blue and never get splash... is this just a short cut to not admit that there birds are cariering the wrong genes??? i know that when breeding for blue ppl say to cull the roo's with the flecks of yellow in them... but if your blacks are not E/E black than they will still look black but when breed to a blue you get a small amount of yellow and when you have a splash you get alot of yellow... so does anyone out there have E/E black birds??? and have good colored splash males??? i would love to see pics and maby get some eggs or chicks from them...

i have 4 young splash and im hoping i can get a male that has better color out of them... as for this boy i plan on using him to breed to brown reds to get lemon blue's... if i can ever find someone that will sell me some
