Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hi guys, is this blue more of a splash? I don't know what defines a splash. He definitely has a lot of black feathering.

Splash will not have blue in it. It will be more of a pearly white color with "accent" feathers interspersed. Your boy is blue. Some blues have darker blue feathers in the plumage, but he's definitely not splash.

This is a splash Plymouth Rock pullet.

And splash Ameraucana hen, Snow.

I have 2 blue cockerels. One is a dark blue, the other is more light. It's easier to tell dark blue isn't black if you've got a black also. :)
I have a black, the one blue just has black accents rather than a bluish. I just am curious if the black on blue is a fault or good for breeding.

If it's true black on a blue cockerel then that would not be good for breeding. I think out of your two blue boys your darker blue on blue is your best choice! He also looks more evenly colored and laced. In my opinion. :)

He's not black on blue. He's blue. Blue males have that darker shade of blue through the head, neck, saddle, and tail. That's how they are supposed to look. His edging, however, is pretty faint, and that is an undesirable trait.
