Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

@MuscovyMadness That is so totally crazy. Sorry you lost Lexi like that.
This is my special girl, Crook Neck. Her dad is a splash Ameraucana and her mother is a splash marans, so we sort of expected her to change as she got older. Also, I have a black Australorp/Buff Orpington mix that started out lavender then turned into a splash on a lavender background. I can't wait to see how my splash true Ameraucana feathers out. And I'm hoping some of the blues have good lacing.

Well, yeah. Now she's got to do a bunch of test breeding to black to figure out which birds are also Blue/Splash. And then she needs to rework her breeding program. And she probably spent a good chunk of change on that breeding stock, only to find out that they aren't what she thought they were. All of that is incredibly annoying to deal with, as a breeder.

@junebuggena (or anyone else who can answer) what color would you say the very light silver looking chick is? Is it blue? splash? or could the parents have been carriers of self blue? The parents are a breeding trio of a blue cockbird over one black hen and one splash hen.

Totally understand....and agree.

Hard to tell anything in those pictures, they are bunched together, turned different ways, and it looks like they aren't finished with their feathers. But, I do see one obvious no and that is the blue wheaten male in the first photo. Looks like he has red lacing in his breast, so you don't want to use him. Can't see the wheatens well enough and they need some more finishing to make a good observation.

They are still a little young and the least friendly of all my chickens so far. When I go into the pen they always go to the far corner. It makes it hard to get a good picture. My husband has taken over feeding my birds for the last 5 weeks. This is the first time I have gone out and gotten a good look since my surgery! I didn't even notice the lacing! Well I was wanting a Blue Wheaten rooster so hope the second one turns out better. If not I will start narrowing down the Wheaten roosters till I get down to the best two. I would like to keep one extra. Thank you!

I went to bed after the second chick hatched (I was falling asleep watching the chicks) and after I could see than one was close to zipping. At exactly 4:45am something woke me. I went straight to the incubator and saw FIVE babies! Two were freshly hatched, one was damp and the first two were getting pretty fluffy.

This is the first to hatch.

The egg with a question mark on it looks like it should zip pretty soon (the babies have rolled it over so you can't see the pip). Two others have pips. Two show no signs at this point, but I'm not giving up on them yet.

They are so cute! Makes me want to start up the bator but we are getting cool nights here so I will wait!
