Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Yay! I'm glad you're coming. I guess we can all have a backyardchickens reunion!

Yes, I am planning on entering a few birds. I bought some more conditioning cages yesterday and am going to install them in the barn on Sunday. I'm not sure what all I'm bringing yet. I have seven breeds/color varieties, but I don't want to overwhelm myself by bringing the whole gang.

Lol! In regard to Ameraucanas, I'll probably bring 2-3 pullets and maybe a cockerel. Still deciding! I'm excited about going. This will be my first time to attend that show. We go to Knoxville a few times each year for football games. I love the area!

I'll be bringing either a full display of blacks, depending on how Max looks by then - he's been in a breeding pen since Spring, so he's a little ragged right now, or two young trios of blacks plus either two pullets of blues or a trio - again - depending if my young blue cockerel finishes out by then, and some mix of wheaten/blue wheaten, as yet to be decided. All large fowl.

We should get together and have dinner the night before...

NICE! I am sure that they will all be beautiful!

I would love to get together and have dinner the night before! I am going to try to make it to Knoxville by late afternoon on that Friday (babysitters pending). Lol

Yes, me too. I'll pm you my phone number, so we can touch base that afternoon/evening.

Heck of a time for a poultry show, my chickens are moulting. The only prize they would win is "most blowout moult"!

Haha. I have several that are molting as well. A lot of people hatch and raise chicks in Feb/March to carry to shows in the Fall and Winter. :)

(People also carry older birds that are in good shape)

I take lots of photos of my chickens too. :)

Muffs and beard look good, eye color looks correct, feather quality looks good. I can't tell much about either hens type from the photos. Taking photos from
the side is helpful when assessing type. Looks like she has a little ticking in her hackles (the specks in her neckline). I see ticking in wheatens occasionally but not very often in blue wheatens. It is always a balancing act, trying to get good color in the wing tips/tails without too much color. Lol! IMO, overall I think she is a pretty gal.

Thank you , i plan to show one of my blue wheaten, and a jersey giant or a slash marans :)

Best of luck! If you plan to show, I recommend getting a copy of the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection. It is great to have on hand and has lots of useful info in it. When assessing birds, always look at type first, and then go from there.
