Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

View attachment 1411333 View attachment 1411334 View attachment 1411335 View attachment 1411336 I have a couple of little black chicks from a barnyard mix batch of hatching eggs. I was wondering if perhaps they could be Ameracauna or mix thereof, as half of my eggs were blue, and they have dark colored legs (with feathers, though). I don't have great pics, they're kind of skiddish. About 2 weeks old.
the blue egg gene usually starts out at some point from Ameraucana, or EEs (much more rarely from Auracanas).

But after that, who knows what has been mixed in.

The feathered feet might be from Marans (if the person was trying to raise olive eggers), but could also come from any of the many feather legged breeds if a barnyard mix.

Black is a pretty dominant color, and found in many breeds. It is a common color in Ameraucanas.

Too many factors.

But with feathered feet, they must be mixes of some sort.

Nothing wrong with that. I greatly enjoy my Ameraucana crossed with my Leghorns.

Here are the 3 Ameraucana chicks I hatched 4 weeks ago. I had 5 but sold two. I know it's still too early to be certain, but I'm thinking that two are roos.

Well... in brown Leghorns clear three stripes, with a solid stripe through the eye is female. The males the stripes blur into each other, and often look like just 2 stripes. The V on the top isn't as distinct, and the stripe doesn't usually go so clearly through the eye.
Same as OEGBs, then.

Hello! Wondering if any ameraucana breeders can help me with this one - Ducky is a 7.5 week old blue wheaten ameraucana (though where are her beard/muffs?). I was sure she was a "she" until her comb turned red and "she" started getting some darker mahogany red feathers. Otherwise her colouring seemed all girl. Any experts? Acts like a pullet. I can point out the other boys as they like to chest bump and act all tough.

Hello! I have four young lavender Amerucanas. I know they are notoriously hard to sex, but do combs at around 16 weeks mean they are probable boys? They all look and act like pullets to me, but two of the four have combs and the other two don't. Any opinions? I will need to re-home 'roos before they crow, due to town ordinances. Thank you!

red combs at 16 weeks would have me guessing male. However, I would like to see rooster feathers before giving them away.

Unless the town chicken police are 100% on sexing chickens I think you would get a little slack on a potential cockerel. They don't start of with a big COCK A DOODLE DOOOOOOO!!!!!! I don't think the beginning Erk, Erk would be so annoying to folks that you would get turned in for having a rooster. I hope it is a pullet!
