"Hackle" feathering is neck feathers....."Saddle" feathering is feathers either side of the tail (not tail feathers)....usually, the "hackle" feathers match the "saddle" feathers. But not always! CLEAN "hackles" means that the neck feathering is of a solid color without any streaks of black, etc. mixed in the main color of the neck feathers.....

My money's on the Araucana. She may be small, but she looks fierce.

Ha ha- me too. They are the dense-est little things! It always surprises me when I pick them up how heavy they are.

at the Araucana vs Ameraucana. . . I know my Araucana girls and boys both think they're 3 times bigger than they really are. . . They'll shove around a 12 lb. Marans cock if they need to.

got it. So this would not be "clean hackles" These ameraucanas were bred for egg color and not 'conformation'.

I think it's too soon to tell on her- but from what I've seen- the clean hackles seem to be more important on the roosters. Might not be true, just going by what I've heard people talk about. She's probably going to have great color in her tail

For those of you who are members of the ABC, we have an election coming up and no one has been nominated for President and no one has shown any inclination of wanting to do the job, so I am throwing in my hat.

When you get your ballot write my name in if you wish to vote for me.

Thanks,
