How old are they? I'm asking, really, in curiousity if he breeds very good of Ameraucanas. I've seen a few photos of his Wheatens and they seem pretty nice, but the fact that he has the "infamous blue egg laying Buffs" and all of his Araucanas are AOV has me questioning.​

Okay so I recently bought some blue and black Ameraucanas. A good amount of them (I'd say almost a third) have gold coming in. All of them are going to be culled BUT I have been very unlucky and it looks like I have a butt load of boys and only a few girls (out of 17 birds). There is one nice looking female that has the smallest amount of gold coming through, only a few feathers. Should I cull her as well as the rest or would it be acceptable to keep her? Is this a dominant trait, will she pass this along?

Second question- One of the pullets has a clean face. If she is bred with a muffed rooster, what are the chances of the babies having clean faces? Should I just cull her as well?? And- what are the chances of two muffed birds having a clean faced baby pop up? Curious how she popped up in an otherwise very muffed up bunch of birds.

I'm already fairly sure what the answers are, I just wanted to ask the Ameraucana authorities first lol.

P.S when I say cull I do not necessarily mean kill, I have a flock of olive eggers the hens would go to. I actually love the looks of the ones with gold coming through, so pretty!!

Always remember

Cull Hard.

Any red, cull.

Clean faced, cull.

Muffs / Beards are dominant, one copy of the gene will produce muffs / beards. Two copies will produce fuller beards. If you breed two birds, both having only one copy of the gene, approx 25% will be clean faced. I would eliminate the issue as soon as possible to avoid dealing with it later down the road.

BTW, cull is only meant to refer to eliminating them from the breeding pens. They are fine yard art.

Isn't this fun! I want some Silvers!! (pictures of your Silvers please!) I may have a source for Silvers here in California. She also has Wheatens but I haven't been able to get eggs because she was recovering from a heart attack! Then she said it was too hot to ship and I would have to wait until fall! That's when I ordered eggs from Jean and I'm really glad I did. Her birds are beautiful!!

Sounds like we can do some trading of eggs/birds in the spring

When my silver gal died I gave my silver roos to somebody close to where I live. She has agreed to let me take 1 of them back so that I can give him to the fellow that bought my first silver gal. He wasn't going to breed for silvers til he saw how beautiful she has grown up to be (she really is stunning).

The gal I gave the silvers to has agreed to let me take the nicest roo in exchange for a few hatching eggs of her own. So this one little silver gal already has 3 folks to produce hatching eggs for. Of course many things could go wrong between now and then but if all else fails I'll just order more silvers from John.
