Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Ok, here goes. Sorry for so many photos (this isn't even all of the girls!), and the poor quality of them. These are my June 5 'birthday' hatch from Jean's eggs. I'm making room before winter, and will be selling a few of the cockerels, and may sell 1 pullet. I'm trying to decide who to keep and who to let go. No yellow feathers on any of the boys. Eyes are still 'baby' colored at this point. Opinions welcome (especially Jean's

And please excuse the poopy pens; some of the photos had been taken after I was sick, and hadn't cleaned as I normally would. I took the photos, realized how dirty they were, THEN raked.

My two Ameraucanas are 26 weeks now, no eggs yet but Ginger has a red comb and face and started squatting for me two weeks ago. Boy, what a difference in her! She was my least friendly chicken, didn't want me to pet her or get too close, but now all of a sudden she's my best pal! She comes running whenever I go out now and follows me around. She's the first to get to me and she runs right up in front of me and squats, then comes even closer and squats again (and all I'm doing is standing there!) She likes to be picked up and carried around and will let my little kids pet her too. Martha's comb isn't as red, and she's still pretty standoffish (though she did squat once when Ginger did, but I think she was just being a copycat -- she follows her sister everywhere and does whatever she does. When I carry Ginger around, Martha follows us and grumbles and complains). Crossing my fingers for some eggs from at least Ginger soon!

Though you did make my heart skip a beat for half a second! The boys look really gawky to me, much more so than the girls.I guess they will outgrow it.

Thank you, Mahonri. I like the black girl, and the boy in jail, too.

Out of all of the roos, which 3 would you sell, if you had to choose?

Congrats Greencastle! The little blues are so cute!

Kansaseq- I like them ALL! Especially the blue roo with the fluffy beard. It looks sooo soft

Here's some (blurry) pics of a girl I hope I can use. She's supposed to be blue wheaten, but has maybe one tiny spot of blue on her tail. I plan on including her in the breeding program with a wheaten roo and hope to get more color in any babies. She sure looks splash wheaten to me

And here's Santa. He's finally starting to fill out- and just started crowing (whenever he does the wellie roo charges him) There is a trace of black in his hackles, but until Groovy Man steps up or some of the babies grow out, he's all I really have to work with.

She does look like a splash wheaten. She should have white tips on her tail and wings where black would be on a wheaten hen. Its hard to tell from the pic. She's very nice looking.

If I were keeping one to put over that black, it would be the one I mentioned in Jail.

They'll make you some beautiful blues.
