What do they look like? Do you have a roo????

If not, maybe its the mailman? Are the chicks carrying little teeny napsacks?

halo - There are 3 that are mostly black and the fourth is a beautiful big blue! 2 of the nearly black chicks have some white under the throat and the belly - like they are wearing tuxedos! All have black/dark gray legs with yellow toes. All seem to have straight combs. I think probably the daddy is a Partridge Rock rooster that was a mistaken sexing case from Mt. Healthy.

The other possibilities are 1) the "Colombian Wyandotte" that was a mistaken sexing case from Ideal - but he has a rose comb and feathered legs, and he's pretty uncoordinated - brain-damaged, I think. I don't believe he is capable of completing "the act."
2) the nearly white Ameraucana roo that was another mistaken sexing case - supposed to be a too white wheaten Ameraucana pullet that I got from you! (By the way, he is gorgeous! Can't bring myself to give him to someone to eat, which was the fate of the PR roo.) He's got a pea comb.

I looked up on the chicken genetics website, and see that no matter what you mate a blue hen to, you get blue or black chicks. (Is that right?) However, the rose and pea comb genes are dominant, and because all of the chicks have straight combs, I suspect the PR roo was the daddy.

Any thoughts?

flgardengirfl - oops on the full mailbox! I'll empty some stuff!

Thanks for sharing your pics...I really like both of them, nice top lines!

Maybe it's the washout from the pics, but it looks like the hen's legs are really light...??

We just got home from a show today too, and my roo took reserve variety to one of my hens best of variety, and she took reserve breed to a wheaten pullet with NO black in her tail...kind of displeased about that, but whatever, it is what it is. Got to talk to the judge afterward, and he said he just liked the type on the wheaten better, "build the house and then paint it" he said...interesting perspective...
One of the other judges did not agree with him, but it's the opinion of the one judging the class that counts. There's always next time.

On a better note, I took my LF lavender cockerel, and Jean liked him so much, she wants to take him to the Ameraucana national in Illinois next year. That's kind of exciting. We weighed him, at exactly 6 months, he already weighs 6lbs, 9oz. I knew he was big, but seeing him stand tall and proud in a show cage was pretty impressive (tooting Jean's horn here, not my own! LOL - I had nothing to do with it, I just got lucky!)

Take care Tyler - keep doing what you're doing, it's always "just one judge's opinion"...which I am currently having to remind myself...

Hey! Thats great to hear!

The pullets legs are really dark I'll have to find a picture of her...it doesn't help that the sun light and bad show hall lighting were in the picture. The hen's legs are a little lighter but not much. I have this on hen her legs are almost black! The AOCCL champ was a White Ameraucana with excellent type. I would have brought that hen home in a second. Over all they did well. I went to the open show side and was very impressed by some large fowl ameraucanas they had over there. They had a pair of whites and a couple blues and some blacks. I have some names on the exhibitor list highlighted for future reference with them but I saw the most gorgeous Blue Wheaten Bantams there I have ever saw! I have that ladies named stared highlighted and everything else because I would kill to have some of those! The same women had like 5 lavender bantams there too and they were nice as well but not my cup of tea.

I need to really start sociallizing more at show it seems like I show with the same people everytime but I never talk to anyone! That kind of sucks about that wheaten. I've heard judges use that little saying before. I suppose it is easier to breed for color than it is for type.

I can't wait to see pictures of this LF Lavender he sounds impressive. I'm going to post a better pic of the girls legs because that picture just doesn't do them justice at all. There were actually alot of Ameraucana bantams at this show. there were like 10 or 11 there I was plesently surprised. Its usually only like three or four! The last show I went to there were 4 Ameraucanas in the Jr. Show and 1 in the open show!

I think I'm going to quit showing in the Jr. Shows and start showing in the Open Shows.

Tyler, on page #408, post #4069, there's a couple of pics of him, they are small pics, as my cell is all I have to take pics with right now, and those 2 pics don't do him justice, but it'll give you an idea...

My son's going to show his new Call ducks in open class at our next show (at suggestion of the breeder). Go for it!

Even though my blacks lost out BB to the wheatens, it was nice to see another exhibitor of bantam Ameraucanas at our show!

I'll have to check him out. I usually only compete agains Little Ameraucana Mom. It was nice to see the other people there. There were more there than I thought there would be. My sister is going to start showing her and Mom's new calls in the Junior Shows. I wish there were more Ameraucanas around. I have located some new Trios that I'm going to try to pick up!! Very excited especially about the WHITES! I adore them! Good luck with your Calls as well as your Ameraucanas!

Barring a DNA test, Id think maybe the PR. Wonder what they'll look like when they grow up?

Time will tell - I will post photos - on the Plymouth Rock thread where they belong! I am pretty sure I have 2 pullets and 2 cockerels, but time will tell on that too!

Never hatched chicks in an incubator before - I see a huge difference in their friendliness compared to chicks that came from a feed store, in the mail, or hatched by a broody. I'm pretty sure they think I'm their mother. If I cluck to them, they come a-runnin!
