Congrats on your first eggs!

I've been keeping my girls locked in their run to discourage Ginger from hiding eggs in the yard, and yesterday I got an egg on the floor of the coop in front of the nest boxes, so this morning I put ping pong balls in the boxes and got a blue egg in the nest box this afternoon

After that I gave them their freedom for the rest of the day. I think I'll keep doing that for a while, keeping them penned up until the eggs have been laid and then letting them out. I'm not 100% sure its Ginger who is laying, I've hardly seen her go into the coop at all and I did see Martha sitting in a nest box yesterday, but Ginger has a much redder comb and face and squats if I even look at her, while Martha runs away and isn't very red yet. I guess I'll know they are both laying when I start getting 2 blue eggs a day.

I would really like to see another Ameraucana show ; the Eastern IA Poultry Show is coming up in Nov . Now if someone is going to be there with a trio of large fowl whites for sale , or a nice large fowl splash roo [ older or even a little hen aggressive is OK ] , it would be just enough temptation to get me there

I just found out my clean faced Blue Ameraucana (EE) is a rooster! I know that I will not use for my breeding program but I was wondering if breeding him to my leghorns or RIR will I get bearded EE's? Basically do they still carry the muff/beard gene?

I believe the muffs and beard are incomplete dominate ; if I'm correct then if you don't see it the gene isn't there and those crosses will be clean faced .​

I think it *might* mean they only have one beard gene- so your chances are 1 in 4 of having a beard, but it would probably be a small beard if they have one. If I'm remembering what I was told about my clean faced ones correctly. that is. Doesn't mean you can't use them to make EEs- leghorns would be great to cross with.
