Remeber Folks - I'm new at this and some of my queries may sound stupid.
Having said that,
I was just looking at the ameraucana breeders page and on it it showed a picture of a "Wheaton male".
This "Wheaton Male" had a white tuft of feathers on the top by his tail's base.
I'm sure I've read in this thread that the white tuft of feathers there is an undesirable trait.
Am I mistaken or what?

After seven plus long months.....one of my Lavender pullets finally gave me a present yesterday!!!!! Found a pretty little blue/green egg in the nestbox.

but really, the Marans thread isn't THAT busy.



And on to the topic - Question for experienced breeders and showers - The standard calls for a "well spread" tail. Now, how well spread do we want the tail from side to side, though? Do we want a nice upside-down V, and how much would we get knocked down for a more 'pinched' spread when looking at the hen/cock from the rear?

I've got a pullet I'd love to show this December, but she's a little narrow at the tail when looking at her from the rear, and I personally don't like it but I'm curious how bad it actually is. The standard, far as I read, doesn't mention such.

(I want to show her because my best hen and cock are either molting or need to molt, and won't be ready in time. But I'd love to see how well she does.)
