I ended up with 10 of these in the New Year's day hatch plus nine more splits. They are so fun.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

I don't know if anyone noticed this or not, but I think it is totally interesting....

This chick is an offspring of a known female that I grew out and made note of last year as being fast to feather. Look at the wing; these are one and two-day old chicks. Cool, huh? It's got to be genetic.

Cool. I have heard of a slow feathering gene so maybe there is a fast feathering gene. Are your lavenders really sweet? I only have blue ameraucanas and I literally have to peel them off of me when I leave thier pen even the roos! They are such love sponges

Personally I'm used to Ameraucanas being very fast feather growers. My Wheatens and Blue Wheatens were that well developed at the same age.

btw Nice Lavenders. The parents are very reminiscent to Orpingtons, being hunky and all, but some of those chicks are some definite picks in my opinion. Getting some good beard/muff size on a couple, too.

YES! I noticed those feathers and thought they must have been a few days older! I'll remember that when I get my order of black, silver and LAVENDERS. Your chicks and parents are SOOOOO pretty. You know, you are just making things difficult for me. I'm already having a hard time waiting for mine!

Thanks for posting such pretty, pretty pictures.

I have a few questions about Ameraucanas. I bought 8 "Ameraucanas" (7 Hens and 1 Rooster.) How is the best way to tell if they are True Ameraucana's or EE's? They have feathers on there face quite thick, color tinted legs(not yellow), lay greenish to white/pink eggs, and also have a Rosecomb. Are the comb and the face the way to tell? How do I post pics from a blackberry phone? It would be easier then probably. My avatar is a pic of the Rooster. Thank you
