Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I took a few pictures when it was sunny out today, just thought I would share.

Yes, I'm very excited for the next show to come around. . . However I'd really like it if my black and blue cocks would MOLT already!

I'm not showing them in the state they're in now. . . .

Thank you! I took it from above, the chickens run slopes down to a creek and I just happened to look down as she glanced up at me.

They are excellent birds. I've found mine to be calm, never aggressive, very good layers... all of that and they're gorgeous, too!

What color are you going to be raising Clint?

Not sure I really have a color picked out yet, I'll be happy to start with some true Ameraucana eggs, and see what colors I end up with. Now Claude's coloration is magnificent, what coloration his he considered ?

Blue Wheaten. The hens you've been seeing on this thread lately are also Blue Wheaten. (roosters are blue and red, hens are creamy tan with blue tips)

There are a lot of beautiful Ameraucana colors out there to choose from. My advise is always to go for the rare colors and save their numbers.

Colors like Buff, Silver, and Brown-Red are absolutely beautiful but sadly pretty rare, especially brown-red. Just getting a few laying hens of this color can really help out, especially when showing them off to others, getting others into the color.

I myself got some Buffs from Pips&peeps and would love to show 'em off. They're a rare color still in need of improvement, but definitely worth the work!

I'll be breeding this pair as well as my buff cockerel over my wheatens. (to improve color, egg color, and beard/muffs)

Hopefully I will have a LOT of buff chicks running around this spring.

All the Ameraucanas I currently have are Blue Wheaten, it's my absolute favorite color, in any breed.

I'm getting Silvers from John Blehm this spring, like Illia mentioned there are a few colors that aren't as well known. I would love, love, love to get some Brown Reds, I think they are gorgeous too, but they are very hard to come by. At least quality stock is...

She's very pretty HappyMtn!! My Ameraucanas are typically the first ones out of the coop in the morning too, no matter what the weather looks like. We haven't ever had snow like in your picture though, I don't know what my birds would do then!

BTW, did I mention already that I was getting Splash Wheaten chicks from Paul Smith? I'm crossing my fingers for a little cockerel like Groovy Man!
