ParadiseFoundFarm, now those eyes are what I would call expressive enough for the SOP!

Question, what are the automatic DQs for Ameraucanas when showing?

So many different color varieties, confusing for the newbie like me

The wife wanted too order some chicks from Murray McMurray, but from what I've read their Araucanas/Americanas are nothing more than EE, so I'm that's why I'm leaning more towards finding some eggs, and hatching myself. I guess the Lavenders seem to be the newest color, not sure if they are an accepted color yet ? I'll be just happy to get some healthy birds too start, but I'm
going with the Araucanas/Ameraucanas, I think both of these breeds will do well here.

quick question....(I know you guys are probably tired of hearing from me) How many birds do people with LF keep? I'm thinking about switching over to strickly LF and get a different bantam breed of some kind. I was thinking like a small flock of 5-6/variety??

I have 4 LF BW hens + my BW boy Claude, I plan on increasing my flock to 12 - 16 hens with 2 roos to keep them company this season.

That all depends on my pullet to cockerel ratio and how hard I have to cull this year of course...

I have a pen big enough to fit about 15 LF ducks, but I don't want too terribly many. I'm not liking how the bantams winter. This is the second winter with them and they don't always fair well so I was thinking since I love my Amers I should just switch over to all LF. I would like to get some Lavs (know where those are) I'd like to find some more BBS (can find those), but I don't know where to find any Wheatens/BW's so I'll have to track them down. But I'm not sure how many to keep, I want a small flock but I want a flock big enough for breeding....

Since my cockerel is Gary Ramey blood and my pullet is Pips&peeps breeding, I'm using my cockerel to cover my wheatens, then one of the F1 cockerels will go back to the Pips&peeps pullet.

Your F1 Wheaten crosses should be mostly buff with black smudging here and there. After that, back to buff, they should be solid buff again.

I do 4-5 hens per cock for wider chances of improvement and variety, but I don't keep them in the same area anyway, so even 3 females is fine with me.

I actually also started out with Murray McMurray's "Americana/Araucanas," hoping for true Araucanas. I learned quickly, and ended up getting both Araucanas and Ameraucanas.

They both are very good breeds! I think Araucanas are far more rare simply because people don't like the lack of tail and are afraid of the whole "lethal tufts" thing, unknowing that it only happens with both parents being tufted.

Ok because I'm on the scout for some wheatens. I have a trio of them directly Jean so I think I have a good start. I'm trying to find some more flockmates for the splash pullet. I want to help with the Lav's to. Looks like more pen building for me

I'd like to do something with the buffs but they are awfully hard to come by... plus I don't know if I'm experienced enough to be entrusted with them...lol

I don't think he can be shown - He's a Splash Wheaton. Right?
And...what are the automatic DQs for Ameraucanas when showing? Great question!
