Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Yvonne,
Do a search on here for the Kip Calculator. It will give you all the possibilities that such a mating would produce. Plus you can use it for almost every color with some exceptions. That is the site a lot of people use. Good luck and it is fun to use and the best resource for beginers.

If you breed a blue and a lavender together you will get split blacks and split blues. Unless the the blue for some reason is carring the lavender gene and that would only happen if one of its parents was a lavender. I think there is some confusion about the difference of a lavender and a blue are. Lavenders have no lacing either.

Love that lavender, chickenstalker! If she ever dissapears, it's not because she was chicken-napped to my house

Personally, I prefer to keep blues and lavenders totally seperate. I want to know exactly what I have, and what I should expect to get. In silkies I see alot of "blue{or splash} but carries lavender" and that is a turn off for me. Have not come across it as much in Ameraucanas, luckily. So I personally wouldn't breed a blue to lavender or split lavenders. What are everyone else's oppinions?

Hi I'am new to chickens. I hope this dose not sound bad but how do you no the diff from a EE and a Ameraucanas?
I have bought 3 so called ameraucanas from ideal poultry. So my qusetion is are they EE or Ameraucana?
If they are EE's then why dose Ieal call them Ameraucanas? I would love any info! Thanks

It was advised by the experts not to cross the blue to the lavender. There is an obvious distinction of a lavender that is also having the blue gene. There is not as far as I have seen a way to tell if a blue is carrying a lavender gene visually only if you know the birds background. Good luck everyone in their experiments.

Yeah, I just got my NPIP renewed again!

I spent four hours with the vet tech Monday drawing blood to send in and got it overnighted before the holidays. They tested it all when they received it yesterday, must have been a slow day......
