It and the picture belongs to Susie Osio.

Sue showed a Blue Wheaten pullet last year that I wanted to smuggle out of the show.

I wonder if this is the same one?

It's those kind of tails that I am really wishing to find again, and thanks for resurrecting that photo! Seriously, that full color in the tail is a must in Wheatens, yet in Ameraucanas it is just so rare.

Love those wheatie girls, too! I hope my wheaties turn out nice. Time will tell. Today I only had ONE with a pasty or crusty butt, whatever you want to call it, so maybe we are over the hump with them. None of the other varieties had any problem with it.

I have couple Genetics questions regarding Ameraucanas for you guys...

Black roo X Wheaten hen= ??

Blue roo X Wheaten hen= Blue Wheaten?

and last, to get lavender do you just breed two of the lightest blues you have until you reach lavender?

Hope you guys can help me, Thanks

Lavender is its own gene, not related to blue at all. You can't just make it.

Black x Wheaten = blacks w/red leakage

Blue x Wheaten = blues and blacks w/red leakage, not Wheatens at all

Generally speaking when you cross two different varieties you are creating easter eggers or non standard ameraucanas. To get a blue wheaten you need to breed two of the wheaten varieties together. Like blue wheaten to blue wheaten or wheaten to blue wheaten. There are a couple of different possible outcomes for chicks, but as a general rule of thumb do not cross different varieties together.

To get lavender you have to introduce the lavender gene. It is a seperate recessive gene from blue.

Seeing all of these beautiful Ameraucana's makes me really miss the one I lost this winter she was my only Ameraucana she was a blue she wasn't SQ but I loved her so sweet. I never really liked the blue's until I had her and realized how pretty they really are. I can't wait to find another like her. Her name was charlie (she was supposed to be a rooster) Just wanted to post a picture.
