I bid...

Hey, anyone have any hatch out of BBS pen that look like this? I know he is DQ every which way all over, but I LOVE him anyhow, and put him to work my EE pen, so he's earning his keep anyhow, and I can justify feeding him. He is still a baby, little tiny spur nubs, hasn't even grown out his sickle feathers yet, but he is HUGE, and I know he has mahogany leakage, white shanks, non standard color, upright ugly comb, but I still appreciate him for what he is. My question is, do other breeders sometimes get sports like this?

My pens all have tops. No mixes in that pen. The roo is from John Blehm stock, hens are part John Blehm, Duane Urch. One splash hen is unknown breeder, small, scrawny compared to the others.

No, looks splash. Not trying to start a new color. and it would be impossible because of the shank color. I realize that. Just was wondering if anyone ever got sports like that. I will NOT be crossing him on the Ameraucanas. I do plan to cross him on some light sussex. I have coronations too, could go that route, and make "coronation" easter eggers. He's big, the coronations are HUGE, and I could just choose the lightest colored eggs to hatch and work toward blue laying coronation EE's... but not trying to hijack the thread. Neat idea though jeremy....

It's interesting that some of the recessive whites would be hard to seperate from a hatch of splash blues or lavs at hatch, but feather pure white. I believe their down color is a clue to genotype; but unfortunatly I lack the knowledge and experience to know why some are hatched nearly yellow, some more smokey, others blue with patterning on their heads and chests/bellies.
