Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

So how do you suggest we handle it when someone new arrives and proudly posts pictures of their new "Ameraucana" that we can all see is an Easter Egger? (Which is what happens EVERY time this come up. Because someone sold them an "Amerauacana".) Do we just ignore them and hope they will go away?
 
Ok. Ranting here. I have to say, I think many folks here may need to look for a reality pill. I remember how THRILLED I was to finally find "Ameraucanas" from a hatchery in Canada. I proudly posted pictures on this very thread never doubting for a minute that what I had were Ameraucanas. It wouldn't have occurred to me in a million years to look for a button or instructions about whether or not I was really welcome here. I bought "Ameraucanas". Of course, I belonged here. Post away. The guy who sold me the birds told me they were Ameraucanas. He was a professional. He couldn't possibly be wrong. And I was SO proud to finally be a part of the blue egg Ameraucana crowd. Thankfully, that was many years ago because it seems, the folks here on this thread were more tolerant then. I was informed immediately that my birds were, in fact, Easter Eggers. I was crushed. I argued, I questioned - even took on Jean herself and questioned the ABC, but I was tolerated and my questions were addressed. I have since been educated and hooked up with some very nice genuine Ameraucanas. (And I still have most of those original EEs AND some of their daughters!)

I hate to think the folks on this thread have given up on helping to educate the masses, even if it is tiresome. It is FAR from flogging a dead horse when the issue arises anew on an almost daily basis. That horse is alive and well and still needs some guidance, tolerance, and understanding.

I believe this is the most logical thing I have read about this issue.
 
If I can interject and express my excitement over getting my first flock this summer. They will be BBS and BBS Wheaten birds from a hobby farm in north Georgia. I am so excited I can't stand it!

I had planned on Cream Legbars but the price just hasn't come down enough since they're so new to the US. I could get 9 Ameraucana chicks for the same price as a single female legbar chick. So it was a no-brainer for a beginner like me.

And in relation to the argument: I really wanted my birds to lay blue eggs, which is why I also considered legbars. And I knew from reading this thread that the standard for Ameraucanas states that they lay a blue egg. If I had not been following this thread and lurking the forums, I would have thought the "Ameraucanas" from the local feed store would consistently lay blue, instead of green, pink or even brown and I would have been surprised if not a little disappointed. So I want to say thank you for the education even if it is a little tiring to have to repeat it so much!

I nicely wrote that little blurb to use in such cases as you posted, Barn Goddess and my post was attacked! Darned if you do and darned if you don't.

I guess I am the odd person out who did some reading before making a comple butt of myself on this thread. I knew the difference between EE/AmerIcanas, Ameraucanas and even Araucanas.

It makes me really sad that 3/4 or so years I tried to clear this up with the differences thread people still get hurt feelings over it. Purebred animals have a Standard for a reason, and you can have all the opinions you want but it isnt going to change what breed clubs for any animal spend years to establish. You cant have a Lab with spots and decide its the greatest thing and you are going to get it accepted into the ring as a variety. Bottom line is, it is all pretty black and white what those breed standards are. I dont care if its a chicken, refrigerator, or an emu you always have to take some personality responsibility to know what you are talking about before you do. Buyer beware, ya know? We have raised both Amers and EEs for a decade now and always will. They are just great birds. Both breeds.
