Your pens are amazing! what are the dimensions? Mine are kinda a mishmash, as I never thought I would get this addicted to chickens that I would start breeding! My dream is to one day buy a commercial poultry building, and to convert it into breeding pens. One day...

They vary. They are 8-14 feet wide and 16- 24 feet long. My DH is talking about a third structure for brooding chicks so I don't have them in the house. I start hatching early and we can get -20 here in January, and the bathtub in the spare bathroom makes an easy to clean brooder.

How many birds in each pen? Sorry for all the questions. Hahaha, Yeah, I think it's easy to take care of them inside, but I'm the only one who thinks that!

That, too, varies. Depends on age, breed, and temperament. Ameraucanas are freakazoids when they are young . With the cost of feed nowadays, they are not filled to capacity. There are formulas for number of square feet to bird ratios, but what one breed tolerates and does well in, won't work for another. Even varieties within the same breed can be widely different.

P.S. To all those folks posting pics of their new Wheatens and Blue Wheatens, I sooooooooooooo tickled to see more folks getting turned on by the WBS variety. Now get out there and start showing them!!!!!!!!!

God Bless,

I may be bugging you later on. I have a 13 week old pullet I hatched from my Duke and one of the 2 year old hens I'd bought that I hope turns out good as an adult. (She's the only ameraucana that I have actually hatched) I was hoping for blue wheaten when she hatched since her mom is the blue one. I really need to name the ameraucanas. Makes it easier for me on who's who.

11 weeks old in the picture. She's out hiding with the other chicks in the cool grass in this heat. She's molting out a few feathers right now so I hope she looks good in her adult feathers.

I really am in love with the ameraucanas. Mine have such personalities. I love the rooster temperaments.
