Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I'm learning so humor me...having a BR roo (pure? Or not...) Wouldn't they be "sex-linked EE's" ? Being that leg color change and striping isn't accepted-yet?
Even if the leg color pans out and egg color, having the BR in the mix to do it, automatically makes me think EE- UNIQUE yes, but - based on what I've seen here when so many ameraucana "crosses" are shot down and told they have EE's I'm curious as to what makes this one different?
Is this where "breeding true" comes in? Breeding back until you get what you want then when offspring who "look" correct should breed true, eventually making it an ameraucana standard being the next step?
Sorry so many questions, Imma sponge for knowledge and this stuff challenges what I 'thought' I knew

Don't get me wrong! I'm on the "thought my original birds were ameraucanas" list lol
This one and the splash gene 'non-recognized but used for breeding is ok', confuse me still!

Well with a BR rooster with 2 barring genes all chicks will be barred. The males will only have 1 barring gene the females will have 1 barring gene but that is all they can have. That is the sex-linked part. The goal is the difference.I am 1 of the charter members of the Ameraucana Breeders Club and helped get the breed into the SOP.So I have done this before. We borrowed from other breeds to get color genes and other traits we needed.Splash and splash wheaten were not included due to lack of numbers. There were not enough in existence. They were a by product. It was a huge undertaking for a small club.I expect splash and splash wheaten to be in the SOP someday.Remember it must exist first to be considered for acceptance.

I'm following this with interest as my first hatch next week is a BR roo cross for EE's. Simply because he's my only adult male.

There are two threads for these.Subscribe to barred easter egger and lavender cuckoo easter egger threads.I do not known how to cut and paste the address. That will keep this thread for purebreds.

for a bared project wouldn't you want to keep an Ameraucana rooster over a bared hen that way you keep the blue egg laying gene

The blue egg gene is not sex linked. So it will work either way. With a barred hen and black rooster you would get black pullets and single barred cockerels.Black sex-links.
