Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Angel16, If you could take some good pictures of her standing in good light (like jajeanpierre's pictures) she should get a fair appraisal.

She could well be a true ameraucana (beard /muffs are small though) but pictures would help people give you a solid opinion.

I will try to take some pictures tomorrow :) sorry the pictures are not the best angles. Her beard and muffs have grown since this picture was taken, and my roo that i got with her is a Blue Ameraucana ( he looks like the blue standard roo on that website with maybe a little more black on him)
i'm not sure if this picture would help if you look at it enlarged

X2.Better picture always help.If it were and me and a chicken I was unsure of being pure, I would toss it in with the EE flock and get from a well know breeder. But I know not everyone has the option or room for more

I like your splash..He is small, but since he was ill he might fill out more..he is still a baby..nice curves on him.. Nice color on the legs. Nice toes. I am not sure if I see leakage or not..it might be my computer. Beautiful muff and beard.

I like this fella too..I see pretty curves in the neck and top line to tail. I like him.
He doesn't have leakage. Some of his old feathers have faded a muddy color. His color was always that beautiful clear blue. He is a bit on the small side. Thanks so much for your comments.

How bad is the color of the blue?

I had a really good look at the splash in the bright sunlight this morning. You might be right--there might be some leakage. At certain angles there seems to be a definite gold sparkle to the end edges of some of the feathers. Are there a pictures somewhere that would show gold leakage on an individual feather as opposed to fading from the normal wear and tear of old feathers?

I had some blue cockerels with leakage-their sire was black and had quite a bit of it. Their mothers were show worthy blue hens.

Here's a son of his, a blue with gold leakage.

Their sire:

One of his later sons, who is an extreme example of what can happen with bleed through base color--he was almost all gold and silver when he grew up.

Older picture, same male:

What he has is nothing like these pictures. My cockerel looks like the the black on his (old) feathers has faded out in the sun but the color seems to have a good bit of shine to it. I'll see if I can get pictures of a few feathers I pulled this morning. It may not show up in a photo. Thanks for your pictures.

Your cockerel may just have sun bleaching. Looking forward to the pictures of the feathers!
