I feel like this guy got the same problem as the one I posted, above. Long back with an abrupt start to the tail.

Boy number 3

Reminds me a lot of number one.

This guys tail, and back is worse then 2.

Overall I like 1 and 3. Don't discount 2, he might grow out of his issues. 4 I don't like at all.

With all the above I said you need to consider that these birds are pretty uniform in head, eye, and combs. Which is great, also the legs, muff and beards are good too. So that really only gives me the top line to look at. Its really hard for me to judge wing position, chest, and body depth/width with pictures. The tails of cockerels are kind of not to concerning. Its after a year old you really have to look for wry tail.

2014 will be my 4th year breeding to the SOP, so I hope this helps. I hope other more experienced people will chime in too! The thread has been dead lately

27 weeks, I've been waiting for my ladies to start laying for so long I dreamed about finding a stash of blue eggs under my duvet last night.

I have a question about oyster shell: I put out about two cups in a small bin a few weeks ago and they devoured it like candy. Worried that they would hurt their kidneys (since they're not laying) I stopped putting it out. I tried again this weekend because their combs are a soft red now, and they devoured it again in a couple days. Everything I've read says they'll eat it if they need to, but I'm think my birds maybe aren't the brightest. Should I just wait until I see eggs to give them the oyster shell? They're on non-medicated starter/grower feed currently.

I've been waiting over 30 weeks and nota, someone is investigating the box though so maybe I will get some eggs

They may be confusing the oyster with treats. Make sure the feeders are full, give them scratch or other treat. While they're enjoying that fill the oyster shell feeders. (I grind mine up in a coffee grinder) My oyster/eggshell mix lasts for weeks. I have observed only my layers are nibbling at the free choice oyster mix.

Yeah that's the thing, I give them scratch, they've got plenty food. The oyster shell is in a little gravity bin and it seems when they've finished hoovering up the scratch they go for the oyster shell. They don't eat it all in one sitting, but it seems like it goes faster than their food. I may just wait and see if any start squatting soon.

Everyone in here says they will only eat it when they need and if it's not available they will look for a substitute. Unless you are really concerned about it causing health issues, keep offering it as a free choice. You could put it out of easy reach.... put it out away from their areas of travel so if they want it, they have to go out of their way to get it...

Hello all. I am looking for a critique on my breeding pair. I am developing my flock and I also have a blue hen and splash hen that I haven't gotten pictures of yet. The first pics are the pair and the second pics are the produce of this pair so far.
Thanks in advance for your honest advice. ( the white specks are not white feathers on the black hen) I have another question...the dark chick has very blue down, but her wing feathers look black? Will she be a very dark blue?
