Here is Owen's 4H Blue Ameraucana show bird, Blackie. She is meeting 3 of our new bantam Ameraucana (we got 6 Ameraucana bantams and 9 Ameraucana LF chicks) .![]()
I need some advice sexing my 10.5 week old LF Ameraucanas. I really need to sit down with them and have a good look, but most seem like cockerels and I don't think they are. Some are pretty obvious but some I'm really not sure. Maybe it is denial that is making something that is obviously cockerel into a maybe a pullet. I've been away traveling for 10 days, so hoped that when I came back I would just know but I don't.
If any have any obvious pink, does that mean they are cockerels? The few obvious pullets have an almost white comb. I have one black bird I am sure must be a cockerel because he is just so much bird. His comb doesn't quite look like an obvious cockerel, but it isn't obviously pullet, either.
What can I tell about their color and lacing now? I've four blues, six blacks and two splash. I have two blues that look to have really nice lacing. Does that mean anything at this point?
I just had a look at the color of the blacks. There seems to be a purple sheen to at least some of them. In the back of my mind, I seem to remember that a purple sheen was bad. The blacks are for a bbs breeding program.
Thanks for any tips.
