Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

This one? I vote cockerel. Too much comb for a pullet. Blues cockerels are easy to tell when they start getting new feathers on their hackle, cape, saddle and the bow of their wing. The feathers are black and stand out even on a dark blue bird. Because they are so black and shiny against the duller blue older feathers, they show off their narrowness and pointedness more obviously and earlier than your black or splash birds' feathers will. Part the feathers and look at the new ones coming in on the saddle area. A single feather of a blue cockerel will be obvious.

Oh yes, that one is for sure a cockerel, it's the blue that is leaving everyone debating. I'll keep an eye out on the feathering!

Hello. I had acquired several chicks this May, and told they were Ameraucana. Now they're pretty mature, and I'm not sure that they really are, I'm thinking maybe EE. Does anyone have a more seasoned opinion on this? Also, I would love some help figuring out what their coloring would be called. I have done research and have a hunch for some of them, but would like to hear other opinions. Cheers!

#1 definitely an EE i own 3 in various shading and muffness of that wild/chipmunk colouring, it's very nice though and they are lovely birds.

Thank you for all the quick feedback folks! I am very happy with my birds, and don't care that they were falsely advertised... they are all so beautiful and unique! Here's a pic of the one EE pullet that didn't make it with the previous post. Cheers!

Now you really have me confused. My comment that elicited your comment above was for a blue bird. I only saw pictures of two birds, a black and a blue. Granted the blue might be the very same bird as the black because the photo of the blue is over exposed while the black bird's photo is not. Confusing me even more is that I commented that I thought both birds you sent pictures of were (in my inexperienced opinion) cockerels.

What other picture did you send in other than the EEs?

Can you please send in a photo of the bird you are not sure of?.

I love your EE's! I have one very similar in your number two coloring. She should start laying soon. The EE's are so much fun with the different colorings. Here's a couple of my girls..one that looks like yours. . . number 2 And a pure Ameraucana...white.

There is a pure Ameraucana pullet up front. She still has a couple of months before laying. Can't wait to see that blue egg. The egg I hatched her from was a beautiful blue! I love my white NN too.
