I have a pullet Black Ameraucana, hatched from BBS line eggs that just started laying eggs. She has laid an egg every day for the past 20 or so days, is this a fluke or normal for this time a of year and her age? I didn't expect that kind of egg production from a pure bred bird particularly when it wasn't even officially spring yet (well now it is). For those of you that breed BBS Ameraucanas, what kind of egg production do you get? How much do they slow down for winter?
I think a few factors can be the cause if that, nest box, coop, comfortably with her surroundings. But mostly genetics in my opinion. If she was ready to lay then she's ready to lay. I would mark her and use her as a breeding. Hopefully she can pass on that laying ability to her daughters and her sons can pass it on to their daughters.I have a pullet Black Ameraucana, hatched from BBS line eggs that just started laying eggs. I just really wasn't expecting her to lay so often. I was thinking somewhere around 5 eggs a week. So far she hasn't taken a day off of laying yet, always deposits her egg before 9 am every day. Thanks for the reply by the way.I think a few factors can be the cause if that, nest box, coop, comfortably with her surroundings. But mostly genetics in my opinion.
