Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I got my Ameraucanas from heirloom orpingtons today.

They sent 12 when I ordered 10. :) One didn't make it and one was weak. The weak one I made it drink water and kept the others from trampling it and within a few hours it was running around and eating and drinking on its own. I put them in with my broody that had been sitting on golf balls and she went nuts when she realized what was under her. She was doing the egg song and clucking constantly.

Here are a couple pics of one of my Paul Smith blue wheatens. Any input on boy vs girl? And is it for sure a blue wheaten? Splash wheaten wasn't a possibility from the way he was breeding this year, he told me. Chick was Not happy at being messed with and wouldn't pose properly. :/

Yay! They are so cute! Keep us posted on them growing up! I want to see what they grow out like! They only sell BBS, right?

Really? I purchased from a hatchery as Ameraucanas.
That is one of the issues with these hatcheries. Half of the time they don't even seem to know. It took me a while to realize that the difference between a hatchery stock of a certain breed and a breeder quaility of the same breed is night and day! The RIR are a perfect example of how hatcheries can screw up a breed! EE's are great birds though!

Hi @Prairie Fleur Thus far the coloring looks to be a pullet, and the coloring is hard to tell at this point on the wheaten part. BachBach is right, you'll have to wait a few more weeks to be certain! The Lav's are doing amazing. I have one for sure little roo, his comb is twice the size of the others and he is already protective of the others. They are so stinkin cute. I am handling him a lot hoping to avoid any aggression issues when he's older, he will replace the Lav roo I have now. How are your Lav's and little EE?

And then the other problem with these hatcheries what happens to the males when they sell sexed chicks. They don't do the breeds justice and then I can't imagine the unwanted male chicks are treated what most of us chicken keepers would consider humanely.
