Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

What about Utah?

Or does anyone know of a place with all the purebred Ameracaunas?
I made a mistake by thinking the ranch store had pure bred until I read they really sell EE. :/ so I have 4 EE now.

Where can I find all the purebred colors and history?
Where do I find to buy?

Thanks!!!

@PapaChaz

There are very pretty birds on that website, I may have to get a few.

Well, I don't know where Blanchard is, but if you come toward NW Arkansas, I have chicks hatched just last week that are for sale. Blue, black, Bluewheaten or wheaten.

Question - a couple years back I read that Buff, Wheaten, and Blue Wheaten were difficult to get really good slate legs. My BW Am has very light legs. I did ask for PQ when I ordered 2 BW since I'm not a breeder but I lost the 2nd chick with the better coloring - just my bad luck. The surviving sister is a sweetie and very gentle around my bantams but every time I look at her light legs I wonder if the leg colors are breeding better nowadays.

The leg color is the result of the wheaten gene . Yes buff has it also . The lightening of the plumage also lightens the leg color . When doing wheaten or buff crosses you will get black tailed buff looking birds . These always seem to have darker legs . Once you breed back the correct colors the leg color is light .

I'm a bit confused by your post. Are you saying breeding BW to Wheaten will improve the leg color but when you breed BW back to BW it will lighten leg color? And breeding BW x BW results in lighter plumage? Are you talking just blue tail/wing color or overall plumage color? Lighter plumage seems to be the desirable color.

No I am saying light legs go with the wheaten family of colors . Buff , wheaten and blue wheaten and splash wheaten . No way to improve it . It is just the way it is .

Here are some bantam buff crosses with a buff rooster . This is from a few years ago . Notice how dark the hens legs are . Once I bred back to good buff coloration the legs were light again .
