Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

This is 'Austin Powers'. He needs a new farm to crow on. I am in Southern Ohio. Can anybody help this beautiful boy out?

He's gorgeous!

 What a gorgeous Blue Wheaten!

I have a few Wheaten/Blue Wheatens that I would love some help in sexing. I piggybacked on another thread but am posting here so more will see it.  I'm just not sure exactly what to look for and mine don't show drastic differences. If you can share your opinions I would love to hear them. Thanks so much!

I looked at your pics and from what I am seeing in their coloring, they all look to be pullets so far... they all also have blue feathers in their tails, so they all look blue wheaten as well... although, the yellow legs on the 2 indicates EE and not pure Ameraucana, that also makes me think the other 2 could be suspect as well...
Watch for blue coming in on the chest area, that is what could signify a roo as opposed to pullet... :)

Thanks Ravyn! It would be great if they all end up to be pullets. They are all purebred for sure, this man has been breeding for some time and showing. He breeds to the SOP, so I'm not sure why 2 are looking to have the yellow legs. I also emailed him so I'll see what he says. I know he culls hard in his program. I will watch their chests, I have seen some slight edging in them. Here's some chest views of Gray last week - is this what you mean or would it be more drastic? Thanks!

You're welcome! Good letting him know about the yellow legs, those are just troubling to me, idk... No, the blue would be much more drastic than that... there would be entirely blue feathers coming in over the entire breast, or black if they were reg wheaten... with so much light coloring, they do look like pullets... rare to get all girls, but it has been known to happen! :)

Yes, it's rare for sure. You should see my five year old counting rows of "peas" - adorable. She's been trying to help me figure it out, we just weren't sure what to look for. I think knowing this breeder he will be bummed about the yellow legs. I've been watching them hoping they would change but they haven't. If I end up breeding, I wouldn't breed the ones with the yellow legs of course. If they do end up all girls that would be great as we are attached to them and we already have 2 Marans cockerels so integrating may have been difficult if I wanted to just maintain one coop. We are building a second larger coop now so I could use the existing one as a bachelor pad if I need to. Thanks for your help and have a good night!

A breeder I asked about pale legs on Wheatens, Blue Wheatens, and Buffs said these colors are problematic for poor leg color - something to do with the Wheaten gene. I don't breed but it made me feel a little better about my girl. I lost her sister as a juvie and she had bluer legs and more blue feathers in her body. My B/W is so pale in body colors she could pass for a Buff.
