I only have 7 hens and 10 cockerels, so I will start breeding ASAP to start boosting my breeder flock. Two roosters, one blue and one black, are the obvious leaders at this point. I am going to put the number #3 and #4 selections in a couple of different pens to keep as backup. I have a flock of BCM that I will put one rooster with, and a pen with a bunch of hybrid layers where I can keep another. I got a few pullet pics this weekendGood Luck with your cockerel selections. Do you have to wait a couple years for them to fully mature and go through a molt before you start down-sizing for breeding?
Debbie, I think you will find there are more breeders listed here:I'm located in California and am looking to purchase quality lavender ameraucana hatching eggs or chicks. Canyou recommend someone please?

I'm very new to this myself, and my first batch is about the same age as yours, so I can't offer a critical eye. Just based on what I like, that black looks really nice. I'm choosing to keep a black in my AM pen purely for the colors he will throw. I will also have a blue in another pen in case I want a few splash, but I don't want too many splash. I think the solid colors are going to be the big sellers. If you want the chance of any splash chicks, you will have to go with the blue.
