Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Two pictures of my six month old I think blue Wheaten Ameraucana pullet. She has been laying for about two weeks. She jumps in my wife's and my laps whenever given the chance. Kern

Your pullet is stunning! 2 yrs ago I obtained two Blue Wheaten juvies from a breeder but shortly lost the prettier of the two that looked like yours with the blue feathers and blue feet. The sister that survived (my avatar pic) is very pale and washed out with no blue feathers with very pale legs and she's a poor layer of very pale blue eggs but we still love her - she is non-combative and kind toward her flockmates and that endeared her to us enough to keep her.

I have 2 BBS cockerels and can only keep one. I'm leaning towards my black. What do you all think too early?

Hey girl! Sorry, I keep meaning to give you a holler but keep getting distracted... :/

You know I'll say the black, lol... but either is nice... if you decide to not keep the black though, would you drop me a PM? (Text isn't working since our minitower went out)

Heck, shoot me a PM when you can anyways, would like to talk to you about chicks next spring too... :)

We're pretty set on the black and experimenting with a no-crow collar on a mixed cockerel so we can hopefully get it right before this guy crows. Since our 1 neighbor is far away and the others dog got out and killed 1 of our chickens (he's since built an extra fence between us) he can't say much about the crowing anymore while we are testing it out. He's not crowing yet though. There's so much that goes into keeping roosters when your in the city and you aren't really supposed to. But if he doesn't work out and stays sweet, I will definitely let you know. I had been texting photos of the girls to you, they're gorgeous! Figured you'd lost service somehow... I'll post photos of them on here soon then.

Yeah, the 'air rave' went down and took him forever to call about it, then they said it didn't ship, then it did but lost it, lol... hopefully that'll get sorted out soon...
Sorry about the neighbors dog, we had 2... took out almost 50 chickens in our grow out pen... that was horrible... good fences make better neighbors!
Actually glad you're keeping him... I'll have some blacks in spring from new lines as well if you're interested?
Papa Smurf ended up in a good home with a very nice older lady, his attitude changed after some solitary and she says he's been great now! :)

I'll PM you. Can't wait to hear about it all! I'm glad Papa calmed down! I've been reading about 'teenage' Roos acting up and then settling down after the testosterone stops peaking. Maybe that's what happened to him? Can't wait to hear about your projects!!

I honestly don't understand the crowing complaint people seem to have. Hens make just as much if not more noise as roosters. When my hens lay an egg there is such a racket made by them sometimes I do wonder if there is an attack happening. And since most people have several hens and only one rooster, this celebration by the hens can go several times during the day. In contrast, roosters honestly don't crow that much. Just a bit in the morning and if there are no other roosters around, it doesn't turn into a crowing competition.

I think some people just aren't happy unless they find something to complain about.

That's why I love being a redneck. My roosters aren't the only ones I hear in the mornings

I like the black..seems from the pic to have more body substance and be a little longer, but he still has a better balanced look...The blue is good too..maybe keep him for a back up in case something happens to the black???
