Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

That is the same black, and he carries lower than the blue or the splash. As Ravyn pointed out, it could be a submissive posture. Right now all three are still in the same pen. The blue is the alpha, and the black is #3. I'm curious to see if he raises it when I split them up. If not, I will keep an eye out for higher tailed black pullets in the offspring to pull it up

That can happen, I've noticed it also. It sometimes raises a bit, but not much.

Alright, here she is... had to get a new pic since she just started laying, lol... she has the gorgeous green sheen over her entire body too... out of @jerryse stock and I am proud to have her...

Ravyn, she's a Beauty!!! I love her!

Yeah, I sold off the extras a little early. The color traits showed early, but the type didn't. I thought they were close to what they would be, but they hit a massive spurt at right around 5-6 months. I can't believe how full they have gotten, and am kicking myself for selling the 4 month old black cockerel that was the biggest of the bunch. I thought they had good muffs at 4 months. I didn't realize they were just starting to grow

8 to 9 months on the cockerels if you want to see what you really have. Some are late bloomers. I have even seen leakage pop up as late as that.

Definitely a good point! Glad u mentioned that! If I get several cockerels I'll remember to not get in a hurry to let any of mine go this Summer til after their growth spurts are done and the pros on here can tell me which to keep...

Ravyn tried to tell me that, but I thought I knew which ones were keepers at that age. I was also afraid they would start fighting, but at 6 months they are just starting to challenge each other. I still have pretty good cockerels, but I sold the biggest black that was showing too much purple sheen. A month later, all purple had turned to green, and I wished I had that boy back

I agree... but he did say he was the more submissive so I'd like to see him again after he has them separated for a while...
Mine also didn't really fill out til they were closer to 8-9 months too... they seem to hit a growth spurt then that made a difference in my decisions... just my 2 cents... :)
Oh boy! I'll be feeding my extra cockerels forever! But I dont mind!
