Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

So wouldn't that mean there's another bird mixed in somewhere? I'd be surprised if there was. There may be a slight hint of blue, but very very light. Is it possible to totally lose the color from too much line breeding?

Pulled this off google just for clarification...

Ok, I love having people tell me how wonderful my birds are, but I have a problem. I could probably PM and get an answer, but I think posting problems helps everyone learn, so here it is :
One of my black hens is laying an almost white egg, like a cream white. I hoped maybe it was a fluke, but there was another in the boxes yesterday. I'm sure this is a cull, and I won't set those eggs, but the hens are beautiful. My question is, does this point to a genetic deficiency, or is it a product of breeding for type over egg color?

Do you know which one is laying the pink egg? I have a e-mail that says occasionally he will get one that lays a pink egg but none of them make it into the incubator.

Thanks, so it's possible that a pure AM hen could lay a white egg? Two of them are laying the 50% color of that chart. Now I need one to get the other 25 :D
 Great, not even a month into laying and I'm already having to learn about genetics :gig

The goal is homozygous for blue eggs, but there are a lot of heterozygous for blue egg... the hard part of that is testing the cock, you have to test mate them to a white egg layer...

I knew that's where you were heading with that

I'm happy for now to know that it's not a different bird entirely. Now I know another point to work on as my flock moves forward. Seriously, thanks so much for the help

Hello all! I just wanted to join this thread since I would like to start breeding Ameraucana hens! I recently ordered 23 hatching eggs, but only 4 of those hatched. I think I'm just going to get chicks next. I don't like the idea of having live animals shipped but I have been unsuccessful finding any real ones local...

Here is a picture of one of the ones I just hatched, the only black one;

And here is one that is either blue or lavender, I'm not sure. He had a hard time getting out but he seems perfect now;

So cute!
I highly recommend ordering chicks. Let someone else gamble with the eggs, and you pay a little more for what you really want. I got mine for $10 each, and that included shipping

Thank you! Any suggestions for good breeders? I know there is a website that lists Ameraucana breeders but I would feel much better hearing from people who have ordered from someone already...
