Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I find it coincidental that us Blue Wheaten Amer owners find our birds so sweet that we don't want to upset them in any way. Our B/W is a sucky duddy layer - only layed 3 eggs her 2nd year. Any other breed I would've re-homed by now but our Amer (my avatar) is so timid I just couldn't think of stressing her by plopping her into a rescue flock. She barely feels comfortable around her little Silkie friends and has been terrorized by aggressive prior Leghorns in the flock, so I just can't do it to her. I totally understand your thinking.

I wonder if it is normal for wheaten and blue wheaten to not be good layers?

They are heavier than what standard calls for, but fine for a backyard flock. Should protect the ladies well and intimidate any hawks.

They are 5 months old. Just as long as they are not mean! At that size if he is mean he would intimidate me. I am sure he could kick my caboos. I would have something to put in my new cooker! lol

I have four blue wheaten pullets and I'm getting 3 or 4 eggs daily.

How old are your blue wheatens? I was getting kinda worried because I have some ordered. It got me thinking maybe the blue/black/splash or lavender lay better! lol Wow! I can worry about anything!

Well, these are all last spring's hatches, so anywhere from 7-9 months. I only hatched from early March to the last Monday in May last year. Two of them are ones I got from Paul and they hatched on 4/13
