Exspensive to me is like 15-20 bucks per a chick thanks yall
I think that is for show quality birds. I have some chicks coming from a well known breeder who shows & wins pretty often. So even though my chicks probably wont be show material for example, they still come from the stock! Their blood is still pure! lol! Most importantly I know they are beautiful examples of high quality purebred Ameraucanas. He sells straightrun, & his price per chick includes shippping & in my opinion pretty cheap! The feedstore charges $3.00 less! no comparison!:) Not only are they high quality, their also vaccinated! Complete with health certificate!! I think iits a bargain!!:)

REMEMBER PRICES CHANGE but this is what I payed when I placed my order with Paul Smith. It is cheaper if you are in Texas and adjoining states! I live in Washington and I did the prices for express mail. Anything over 25 chicks was $10 a chick shipped. If you order less. The price per chick shipped is higher! Remember prices are subject to change but this was what I paid when I placed my order.Best bet e-mail Paul and he will send you the prices! He is a very nice preson to deal with! He has awsome birds!

I look at it this way, BYC is full of people like me, that have a tendency to try and sound smarter than they really are. The Club, and I'm sure the Alliance as well, are full of some of the best breeders in the country. I come here when I want to talk to friends and have fun. I go to the club forum and read old threads to learn from the breeders

Well, Maybe one day I will sound smarter then I am also!

This was my experience, as well. In the spring, in my area, I can get $7-10 for any chick I have. I was astonished that Paul sold his birds at that price

I don't know how anyone can claim their chick is show quality. That's an impossible claim to make. I've never seen anyone want 20-30 bucks for a chick! I think 10 is probably the most I've seen and I wouldn't even pay that! Not for a week old chick. I've never charged that either.

If selling chicks, they are selling the potential to be show quality, based on years of line development and reduction of disqualifying flaws. There are no guarantees that they will be better than pet quality, but the odds of getting an exceptional bird are increased dramatically over purebred hatchery birds.

I don't show birds, or sell chicks or hatching eggs intended for exhibition, but I would still invest in the best stock possible if I were raising pure varieties.

Hi

I don't know where you are, but that is pricey!. From what I've seen (and my own prices) $8-$10 for day old chicks is about average from good quality stock. You cannot tell if a chick will be "show quality" or not. Even with a top winning cockerel and CH AOSB hens in the breeding pen, you could hatch out 100 chicks and end up with less than 5 that do well in shows.
