No, do you have a standard of perfection?

Here's a couple of today's pics of my black rooster. I think Susan was right, he's growing into quite a beautiful bird :D

His tail isn't quite as ruffled as it appears. There's a pretty stiff breeze blowing across him from behind in the second picture
He's lookin good SC, how is your first hatch doing?

The first hatch was 14/20, and the blues were very dark, almost black, which is what I hoped for. I have 2 more sets due Valentine's week, and hopefully will have a few left over to grow out for myself to see how my pairings breed. I need to keep about 10 for myself, but it's hard to do when the chicks are paying for feed

ETA: I wasn't thinking, you were asking how the chicks were. I sold them all to one woman, and haven't talked to her since. She's coming back to buy some d'uccle in a few weeks, so I should get an update then

I have been planning on keeping a blue boy because they are still pretty! But I should probably breed my blues to a black rooster.

My blue group. The roo is the best I had out of 3 and I think his tail may be set too high, but I don't show but I do want good quality birds. These are also PSmith birds.
Your blue rooster is absolutely gorgeous! He looks amazing! Yeah, I think l'll be keeping one of my blue boys! Ha! I don't have any yet but I will soon!

Paul suggested I always use black to make blue. I assume you will only have one pen, and I know you like the splash, so I would keep the best blue rooster. Then you could throw splash chicks mating him to a blue or splash hen. If you keep a black rooster only, you will never get splash. With a blue rooster, you could somewhat control the color of the offspring with your choice of hens
