Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Is my rooster a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana? He has excellent muffs and beard. His legs ARE slate. But his tail is too high. I hope he is a Blue Wheaten Ameraucana, even if he isn't bred to standard.

I see yellow skin on the webbing of his toes. While his coloring is right for a Wheaten, his skin color is yellow. He is an Easter Egger, and it's doubtful he has any true Ameraucana in his lineage within the last couple of generations.

After having BCM with yellow feet, I scrapped that entire flock. The rooster's legs were slate, but 1 of 4 hens had yellow feet, and over 50% of all chicks hatched had yellow feet as well. I bought them before I knew better, and after the hatch that looked like it was going to take years of culling to try to get away from. If you are happy with an EE, then there is no problem, but if you are wanting to breed AMs I suggest getting a better rooster

So I am thinking about olive eggers. I thought I read somewhere that you can cross a black AM roo with a cuckoo marans and get sex linked chicks. Does this seem correct? Would it be the tell-tale dot on the head?

Thanks in advance. This forum has the most members that seem to have a grip on genetics. ;)

Cuckoo Marans hens will produce black sexlinks when crossed with just about any non-barred, non-white rooster. However, most Cuckoo Marans lines don't lay very dark eggs, so you might get green laying Easter Eggers instead of olive layers.

FridayYet has cuckoo marans crossed easter eggers. They are beautiful birds, but junebugga is right, their eggs are lighter. Black coppers are better for OE
