I'm going to ask a very beginner question. Why do lavs breed true and BBS blues don't?
Because Lavender is a recessive gene, and needs two copies present to express. All Lavender birds have two copies of the dilute gene, so when bred, all chicks receive one copy from each parent, producing only Lavender chicks.
BBS is a dominant gene. Only one copy is required to produce Blue. Blacks don't have the Blue dilute gene at all, and Splash have two copies.
