I believe it was in 2005 that I made the first crosses to create them. These are the original line of LF lavender Ameraucanas!Nice John! How long have you been working on the lavs?
I'm going to ask a very beginner question. Why do lavs breed true and BBS blues don't?I believe it was in 2005 that I made the first crosses to create them. These are the original line of LF lavender Ameraucanas!
Because Lavender is a recessive gene, and needs two copies present to express. All Lavender birds have two copies of the dilute gene, so when bred, all chicks receive one copy from each parent, producing only Lavender chicks.I'm going to ask a very beginner question. That makes sense, thanks.Because Lavender is a recessive gene, and needs two copies present to express. All Lavender birds have two copies of the dilute gene, so when bred, all chicks receive one copy from each parent, producing only Lavender chicks.
BBS is a dominant gene. Only one copy is required to produce Blue. Blacks don't have the Blue dilute gene at all, and Splash have two copies.
He's going to have to skip this one. I've got him on a "little blue pill" regimen now![]()
