Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

This thread is busy today . I got a white pullet out of some that trace back to a lavender split hen I got from Paul . I think the white came from some Lavender Paul got from Harry . I picked up a pair of whites last fall to go with her . Hatched some out of those plus my lavender split hens covered by the white rooster . So I will also have whites based on Paul's blacks . I will use the black/white pullets next year to increase my number of whites .

WOOOOO My SiAm eggs are in the mail and she threw in some BW eggs to make sure I had extras and that the eggs could be shipped fresh. Super exciting! Now I want to use my split choc boy and some blue wheatens to make choc wheaten, wouldn't that be pretty!?

I've read or heard somewhere that the the silvers could be a little cantankerous. Just wondering. If I ever branch into another color I would like to add silvers but that's a ways off.

I thought Fowl Stuff said be careful about having both blue and Silver, but I can't remember why.

Did the white crop up in large fowl or bantams?

I got two whites last year, but I gave them to my friend thinking they were splash. I am not sure if they came from my Lavs or my BBS pen, The parents were from P Smith. I am doing a little better organizing this year, so I should know who the roo is at least, if I hatch any white. The two whites that she got, both were roos. Since I am wanting them, chances are, they won't appear.

Hi Jerry

Since those are recessive white, would they hatch out with the pale blue chick down, instead of white? I know my dominant whites hatched out yellow and feathered out white, but these would just about have to be recessive, right?

Yes they are recessive . Recessive chick down can vary depending on what it is based on . Smokey down is common when based on black . I have seen a range from smokey to white , Yellow is typical of dominant white .
