Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

All good, Susan... :)

Not like you didn't have a stressful week or anything... :/
Glad the babies made it safe and sound... it is rare, but does happen... had a friend last year whose shipment of ducklings got lost as well... was a frantic search and many phone calls, but luckily they were found as well... hers were out 5 days... she had to fax them written permission to open the box to check on them and every one was still alive... they fed and watered them and then they were flown directly to the waiting recipient...
You let her off too easy :smack

'The wheatens/blue wheatens that I kept out of this last hatch are very personable!  I have one that comes running over and jumps up on my hand already.  They are teaching the blacks to be more sociable.  lol

Quick funny story! Out of my 5 feed store chicks before I knew the difference. This one was really sweet! Smart! Probably the smartest chick I had! So confident! She started sitting on my hand and I just was so happy how sweet she was right? Well, "she" started breeding my hand! I couldn't believe it! My beautiful chick was a boy and breeding my hand! My best friend in Missouri still gives me chit about that!! And he would step forward when I entered the room. Anxiously awaiting for the hand!!! Lol! I thought she~just decided one day she really liked me! Had no idea he was choosing "the hand" for his favorite hen???? It was hilarious! It was one of those oh my gosh your not who I thought you were moments!! Lol!
I felt embarrassed after the fact! I thought "she" was just sitting there...sliding and losing her footing and all the while he was breeding my hand! It probably did it 4 or 5 times before my mind would accept it!!! Yes! Very stupid!
He wanted my hand bad after that! Lol! I had a hard time facing him after that!!!
So if "she" is eyeing your hand...well, just keep that in mind!

LOL! Oh my...now I'm going to be wearing surgical gloves when I handle that chick! It is true, in my experience, the most outgoing in a hatch usually wind up being male...so I'll have to keep your "gotcha" moment in mind!

Well I had never been around any birds prior to that because of a phobia I had of them & it wasn't obvious what the chick was doing. It was like he tripped over his toes and then just hopped down. He never used his beak til the last time. He would be looking around all innocent like. I just didn't know! Stupid on my part for sure. Lol.

So...are you saying you went from phobia to love affair? That's quite a jump - pardon the pun.

Lol definitely! Yep, a year and a half ago I was scared to death of birds, now I think of all I have missed out on but glad I get to experience the joy of chickens now. But I have to say the chicks love affair with my hand made me laugh so hard it hurt!! Definitely my top chicken memory!
Oh...you just had to be there..lol.
