Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

This was my little blue Marans favorite spot. I filled it with firewood. It was always so cute to see her in there. The tree is right behind my stack of firewood.

Okay, ladies...... I need help solving a mystery.  I have a hen that insists on laying her eggs in a giant oak tree hollow.  I don't blame her it is very nice.  I put hay in the hollow and a few golf balls and she has been laying there for a couple of months.  The other day I looked at the golf balls and thought I would take them out.  Well..... one day the golf balls were gone, so I was puzzled and thought I must have taken them out.  I replaced them.  These little things take up my whole day but I promptly moved on to the next retired ladies chore and didn't give it any more thought.  Well.... those golf balls disappeared. I forgot to mention there was an egg in the hollow 6 days out of 7.  Now the golf balls are disappearing and no eggs.  Yesterday I put 2 more golf balls in the hollow. I thought I must be crazy but this time, I am sure I put them in there, this morning, no egg and no golf balls.
What kind of animal steals golf balls and eggs?:idunno

Well, snakes will mistake a golf ball for an egg and eat it  - but they only do it once.

Snakes are the first to my mind also!
Unless there are more...a lot more! I hate snakes.

I have a huge murder of crows. My sister lives next door on 30 acres and they peck holes in her duck eggs. I didn't know they could pick up a whole egg.

Lately I have been thankful for the crows. I burned and cleared about 15 acres and my chickens have no cover. The crows drive the hawks away. I guess they can have the golf balls! Can you imagine that crow conversation? The Mrs. Crow to the Mr. Not those eggs again. I told you not to bring those home!

We were brought up in an era when ladies didn't go out without their hat and gloves - and the purse and the shoes matched!

I am from the same era too, my mother used to always call it the Vogue' era. And to this day my purse and shoes have to match!! Especially for church! Lol!

With a golf ball in one hand and an egg in the other Mr Crow says, well their still eggs what's wrong with them?! Mrs Crow just shakes her head. Personally I can relate to Mrs. Crow!

First thing I did when I retired (Oct 1, 2003) is throw all my panty hose in the garbage. LOL

Then I had to buy more for certain occasions - my wedding was the following weekend.
