Well, after the fiasco last week shipping chicks 250 miles away, this week I shipped chicks to Wisconsin - nearly half way across the country from me. They were a two day shipping, no surprise there.

Then I got an email from the recipient - the chicks are home, happy, and eating and drinking! I wasn't even expecting to hear from her until tomorrow!

Then I got an email from the recipient - the chicks are home, happy, and eating and drinking! I wasn't even expecting to hear from her until tomorrow!

So glad it went smoothly...... it is one of those things that you forget how bad it was. I don't even think about the waiting. I just look at the little babies and think how sweet they are.

Question for mr Blehm. The very left egg is from a silver pullet 11 months, it is bullet shaped and whitesh. The 2 eggs to to right are lavender eggs. Is it normal for the silver eggs to be smaller and whiter than the lavender eggs? Also two of my Silver pullets are still not laying and they are almost a-year-old? The silvers are smaller than the lavender pullets.

Overall LF silvers lay a smaller egg than LF lavenders, but size, shape and color vary from pullet/hen to pullet/hen within every variety. At one time LF silvers and wheatens laid the bluest eggs of all LF varieties, but today my LF blacks produce the most consistently large to extra-large BLUE eggs.
LF silvers and wheatens had always been smaller and lacking in type compared to the other varieties. Another line of silvers was/is smaller than mine. Mine now have the size and type.

Wow, John, those eggs are gorgeous. I'd like to get more color in my eggs. Out of 8 hens, all eggs are an identical shade of pale blue. With all eggs being the same color, it is impossible to only set the bluest eggs. Do you have any suggestion that wouldn't require an extremely in depth explanation as to breeding to improve egg color?
