I really hope it is, I'd love to have a white. I'm pretty sure it's a little pullet, too. All of my splash so far have had varying shades of blue hue, but this one is totally yellow, and the beak is completely pale. It will be interesting to watch her grow out

How old is it? I've had the opposite experience. I can only remember one splash chick that hatched out with a ghostly hue. All others that I have had always hatch out yellow.

Just a couple of days. I'll get some pictures this weekend. My rooster is a dark splash, and the blue hen is almost black. All of the chicks have been yellow, but just a bluish tint to a few feathers, and the beaks haven't been totally pale. This one is pure yellow, and the beak is completely pale, no darker areas at all. It could be a lighter splash, but with the recessive white discussion a few weeks ago I guess I was just hoping for one

I got two last year out of Paul's. I did not know they were white and I had given them away to a friend. They were both roos and she wound up giving them to someone else. I just had one hatch on 3/19. The question was, "is she a splash or white". Pips and Peeps said white, and I am pretty sure she is. She is still very pale yellow with whitish feathers growing in.

Well, she looks pretty white here. Mine came from Hawkeye, a black roo and either a black or splash hen.

If she came from a black rooster, she has to be white. You can't get splash from a black parent

So the chick I posted has grown and feathered out and I still cant tell if she is splash or white. She has about three or four very light gray feathers that are barely noticeable. I have included photos in natural light. Sorry for the picture over load.

I hate to ask but how does a recessive white gene exist in BBS? Did they start out with white chickens at some point in the beginning?

Same way red headed kids show up in a family with no known red heads . Recessive genes can go undetected for generations sometimes .

I would like to know recommendations for where to buy a 'pure' Ameraucana. I was told that if I order them from a local feed store chick days that they are really likely EE's and not true Ameraucana's. I heard through the grapevine or reading somewhere that also some hatchery ones aren't pure. So where would my best bet to be to get one that is 'true' or how do I know that I am getting that and not an EE?
