Got my first 2 chicks hatched from my pullet out of Seglers eggs and the new Lav Shaffer cock... very happy with how they look so far...

Oh, and have a broody working on hatching some from my black splits...

I'm keeping my eye on one of our blues. I'm afraid he's starting to slip a little, too. I will handle that a little differently. Worst part of hatching...

That's too bad, but it's all a part of the cycle of life...sorry!

None from that pullet... had a few hatch from the rest in the same pen... might still have some under broodys...

Had a horrible hatch... gotta set more...

Hello, I just joined. We just today hatched 2 chicks, father is Bruma, mother is Americana. They are grey-white and cuuuute ^.^

Hey guys i got a wheaten am about a week ago adn she had scaly leg mites and was in rough shape. My dad looked up how to treat this and he found that if you dip their legs in gasoline it kills the mites. So after a week of applying ointment and petroleum jelly she looks a whole lot better i will post pictures as soon as i can.

There is no Americana breed and I presume you mean the father is a Brahma. Regardless, if both parents weren't Ameraucana, the chicks aren't Ameraucana. Could be Easter Eggers if the "Americana" (ie Easter Egger) carries the blue egg gene. I agree, cute in any case.

Gasoline????

Castor oil. Not sticky like petroleum jelly and will smother the mites. Generally good for the chicken's skin and will soften the scales, unlike PJ which will attract all sorts of little bits of stuff.

Also works better to kill off a wart on your thumb than Compound W.

I've read that gasoline and kerosene are the fastest trick, I just couldn't bring myself to do it when my bantams had it. I'm not judging, or saying there's anything wrong with that, I'm just curious. Did it seem to hurt the birds, or bother them in any way? My worry was that if they had any open sores that the fuel would burn
