Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I need to get some new pictures of my "white", and I'm almost certain now that she really is white. She's growing into a beautiful little bird. The plan is to take her back to the splash rooster and try to make some more

They are beautiful! I didn't know you could breed back to a splash. I thought you had to breed back to black?

Hey guys i got a wheaten am about a week ago adn she had scaly leg mites and was in rough shape. My dad looked up how to treat this and he found that if you dip their legs in gasoline it kills the mites. So after a week of applying ointment and petroleum jelly she looks a whole lot better i will post pictures as soon as i can.
I used, used motor oil years ago, but Frontline will do the job on the entire bird.

I am still trying to figure out if my little white is a hen or roo. I will try to get some pictures on here so I can get some help deciding. I was going to ask the question as to whether to breed her to black for more white. I have another group hatching now and I may have another one. I haven't taken in out of the 'bator but it is looking like the last one. If we breed these whites, will we get white or is it iffy. I think I read that white was dominant but now I am not sure.

Ameraucana are recessive white . There are a few dominant white but they are rare . Mostly used in Red Pyle project .

She came from the splash rooster, so that means he is carrying recessive white if she really is white. That also means at least one hen is carrying it. If I understand correctly, that means she now has 2 copies of the white gene, and if bred back to the splash with one recessive, the odds of them producing more white goes up

John, do you know if the Frontline kills the eggs? That was the upside to the kerosene that I saw, that it supposedly kill the eggs. With the oils, treatment took longer because it smothered the existing mites, but you had to continue treatment until all eggs hatched and those mites were smothered as well
